For the first time, three recipients of the 2011 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award come from health care. Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Schneck Medical Center in Indiana, and Southcentral Foundation in Anchorage joined Concordia Publishing House as this year’s winners. Our colleagues at Henry Ford Health System were recognized for strong performance on CMS core measures, maintaining a strong bottom line despite increases in uncompensated care, high patient satisfaction, and significant community benefit. Our friends at Southcentral Foundation — the first safety net provider and first minority-focused, minority-owned health care organization to win the Baldrige Award — were singled out for their innovative Nuka System of Care, as well as for key improvements in increased access, decreased emergency and urgent care visits, and decreased hospital admissions.
